Top Ten! 4/28/2020

It’s top ten Tuesday! Here’s what I’ve been obsessing over this week. How about you? Share your top ten in the comments!

  1. Apple’s and peanut butter – Friends. This was my favorite snack as a kid. Why did I take so long to resurrect it?
  2. Sam Hunt’s new album “Southside – I loved his first album “Montevallo.” LOVED. His sophomore album hasn’t won me over quite as much, but I’m definitely still enjoying his soulful voice and storytelling on these new tracks.
  3. NOT WEARING MAKEUP – haven’t worn it in a month, except for lipstick once. I feel like I’m getting to know my own face again and I like it.
  4. The pomegranate orange fizz – in the “Smitten Kitchen Everyday” cookbook. It is tart, it is sweet, it is fizzy. It is keeping me from becoming an alcoholic in quarantine. Pro-tip, I actually subbed in cranberry juice (the pure stuff, nothing added) because I like it better than pomegranate juice.
  5. Andy’s Frozen custard – Just the yummiest local franchise. We’re going through about a quart a week in quarantine and I think it’s a pretty big deal we’re only eating that much.
  6. Garofalo Pasta – it’s an Italian export product, it’s absolutely delicious, and the texture is just superb. Make sure you add salt to your water when boiling and always always ALWAYS cook it al dente and your pasta game will never be the same. I get it at Caputo’s, a local Italian grocery, though I think I’ve seen it at Pete’s too.
  7. How to Get Away With Murder – I got hooked last year. Viola Davis is just straight-up amazing. The final season is on, we’re down to the last three episodes, I think about this TV show all the time as I wait for the next new episode.
  8. This new ficus that I bought from Home Depot. It was delivered straight to my door in a very fun box and it’s my second favorite quarantine impulse purchase. (First favorite is #1 on this list!) (also, see photo!)
  9. Parnassus Book’s First Edition Club – I visited this book store earlier this year (remember when it was safe to travel? Sigh.) and my Mom signed me up for their First Editions Club as a birthday gift. Every month, you get a newly published book, typically a novel. It’s signed by the author, it comes wrapped in brown paper, there is a note from the book seller who selected it. It makes me so happy I cry and I laugh and I cry again. I’m currently reading The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich.
  10. Kilbeggan – not the Irish whiskey, although it is his namesake and also delicious. Our new puppy! We rescued him last month, he’s four months old, he kisses my chin and tries to eat the edges of my skirts and chases his tail all day long. I love him so much. (See photo!)
